Top Ten Tea Rooms For Families - English Heritage

1. Kenilworth Castle & Elizabethan Garden, Warwickshire


The Stables Tearoom offers a seasonal menu of daily specials together with home-baked cakes and Fairtrade tea and coffee. For the little ones, we have highchairs and bottle/food warming facilities, child-sized portions and kids' lunchboxes. Benches are located outside in the picnic area where parents can watch their children run around and play safely.
The tearoom is open:
From April - October: daily, 10.00am-4.30pm. 
From November to March: Sat and Sun, 10.00am-3.30pm apart from February half term when it is open daily.

2. Osborne, Isle of Wight


Osborne's Beach Café is perfectly situated to enjoy the Isle of Wight's Minghella ice cream after a splash in the sea. There are plenty of flavours to choose from such as oriental ginger, passion fruit or mango. Hard to resist, whatever the weather! The café also offers a delicious menu of light refreshments and hot and cold drinks. No need to worry about changing as facilities are situated at the back of the café. Highchairs are also available.

3. Wrest Park, Bedfordshire

Let your kids run around and play safely in the play area which is situated in the walled garden near the Wrest Park Café. There are delicious dishes for young and old, like our warming soups and tasty cakes, made from locally sourced produce. Child-sized portions are also available. For the very little ones we have bottle warming and highchairs - just ask one of our friendly staff and they will be happy to help.

4. Dover Castle, Kent

You are spoilt for choice at Dover Castle, with a coffee shop in the tower and a café within the Secret Wartime Tunnels. The 'Keep' Coffee Shop sells light meals, whilst the the Secret Wartime Tunnel Café sells an array of sandwiches, snacks and cakes. Both can provide bottle/food warming facilities for smaller visitors and highchairs are available.

5. Audley End House and Gardens, Essex


With the Cart Yard Café being located next to the children's play area, this is ideal for kids to play happily whilst adults watch and relax with a cup of tea. Bottle and food warming is available. The Tearoom serves freshly-made soups, sandwiches and salads using seasonal vegetables grown on-site in the Organic Kitchen Garden. Toilets and baby facilities are located at both cafes.

6. Pendennis Castle, Cornwall

The tearoom is situated in the Royal Garrison Artillery Barracks serving a scrumptious selection of refreshments. Snacks and light meals are available, made from the finest local Cornish ingredients. Highchairs and bottle/food warming facilities are available.

April-October: daily (closes ½ hour before the castle).
November-March: Sat-Sun, 10.00pm-3.30pm.

7. Tintagel Castle, Cornwall


Set on one of Britain's most dramatic coastlines, The Beach Café uses local products, and supports Fairtrade and Rainforest Alliance suppliers. Cornish cuisine, such as pasties, crab sandwiches and cream teas are available whilst the family takes in the breathtaking views. Bottle warming and highchairs are available.
Beach Café open:
April-October: daily (closes ½ hour before the castle).
November-March: Sat-Sun, 11.00am-3.30pm.

8. Bolsover Castle, Derbyshire

Enjoy the beautiful views of The Riding House whilst tucking into soup or sandwiches at the large Café. We have a mouth-watering selection of delicious homemade cakes too! The family-friendly facilities include plenty of outdoor space to play, child-size portions, highchairs and baby-changing facilities.

9. Brodsworth Hall and Gardens, South Yorkshire

The Garden Tearoom offers Yorkshire food using the finest local, fresh ingredients. A children's menu and children's cutlery are also available. For the smaller members of the family we provide highchairs and bottle/food warming.

1 April-3 November: daily & Bank Hols, 11.00am-5.00pm.
4 November-31 March: Sat-Sun, 10.00am-4.00pm apart from February half term when it is open daily.
Closed: 24-26 Dec, 31 Dec and 1 Jan.

10. Rievaulx Abbey, North Yorkshire

The whole family can unwind whilst taking in the beautiful views that the café has to offer. Choose from delicious hot dishes or a quick sandwich, not forgetting a homemade cake or freshly baked scone with jam and cream. A children's menu, bottle/food warming and highchairs are all available.
